THE CENTRAL BANK OF ICELAND HAS ISSUED A NEW HIGH DENOMINATION 10,000 KRÓNUR BANKNOTE INCORPORATING DE LA RUE’S AWARD WINNING OPTIKS SECURITY THREAD.
London, 31 October 2013
The Central Bank of Iceland has issued a new high denomination 10,000 kr banknote to facilitate and streamline payments. The banknote is dedicated to the Icelandic poet, scholar and naturalist Jónas Hallgrímsson and contains many references to his life and work. His portrait appears on the front of the banknote along with lines from his poems. Landscape features such as mountain outlines are also included along with images of plovers and scallops.
Most of the security features in the new note follow those on the existing denominations but the predominant feature is the new Optiks security thread. The 18mm thread incorporates repeating images of a flower and the text 10000 KRÓNUR which can be clearly seen in the distinctive see through window and when the note is held up to the light. More information about the note can be found at https://www.cb.is/infrastructures/banknotes-and-coin/valid-banknotes-in-circulation/.
De La Rue is delighted that the Central Bank has chosen to use Optiks in their new high value note. This distinctive and highly secure technology was recognised this year by receiving a Queen‘s Award for Enterprise: Innovation. The Central Bank of Iceland is the second issuing authority to adopt this technology this year alone, following the issue of the Central Bank of Solomon Islands $50 in September.
Optiks™ is a trademark of De La Rue International Limited
