The National bank of Rwanda has begun issuing the new FRW 2000 and FRW 5000. These new banknotes, designed and manufactured by De La Rue, will co-circulate with the existing FRW 2000 and FRW 5000 denominations.
The FRW 2000 is predominantly clear violet, featuring Lake Kivu on the front and coffee beans on the back; while the FRW 5000 is lilac, featuring the Kigali Convention Centre on the front and Rwandan traditional baskets on the back. Both notes have had their security features upgraded and now include the dynamic and colour shifting IGNITE® thread and the level 2 security feature GEMINI™ that depicts vivid and detailed pattern work under ultra-violet light.
Ruth Euling, Managing Director of De La Rue Currency commented “Congratulations to the National Bank of Rwanda on the launch of their new FRW2000 and FRW 5000. We are grateful for the trust the Bank has granted De La Rue in designing and producing their banknotes and we are honoured by our ongoing strong partnership.”
