On 12 April 2016 the Narodowy Bank Polski launched a commemorative 20 zł with De La Rue’s Active™ security thread. The note is issued to celebrate the 1050th Anniversary of the Baptism of Poland.
This commemorative denomination shows a portrait of Mieszko 1, whose baptism on 14 April 966 is considered the baptism of Poland, and his wife Dobrawa. Other religious symbolism includes images of the Gniezno Cathedral which was the first cathedral in Poland and the staurotheke (a cross-shaped reliquary) from OstrÓw Lednicki which is mentioned in chronicles as the site of the first baptism.
De La Rue’s Active™ security thread, which appears on the back of the note, combines lenticular technology with leading edge microscopic fine line printing. The images of 20 and NBP that appear in the thread show a clear switching effect from light to dark and vice versa as the note is tilted left to right.
The notes were printed by the Polish Security Printing Works (PWPW SA). De La Rue’s Dr Tim Berridge, Product Marketing Director for Currency said “The launch of our first Active security thread is an exciting day for De La Rue. A number of other customers have adopted this technology so we look forward to future issues of this thread later this year”.
Active™ is a trademark of De La Rue International Limited
