The Reserve Bank of Fiji issued their auspicious 100c Dragon banknote on the 8th day of the 8th month of 2023. The Dragon will commemorate the forthcoming Chinese Year of the Dragon.
Designed and printed by De La Rue on SAFEGUARD® polymer substrate, the note features a transparent window surmounted with a wave pattern and the number “100” depicted in gold with a pseudo relief effect. The window is populated with Fijian flora, and fauna. The fish and coral motif utilise depth and movement effects with the fish move in opposing directions when the note is tilted east/west.
The note also features SPOTLIGHT™, an interactive feature with counter rotating Pyramid Butterfly fish, that resolve into sharp focus under a point light, such as a mobile phone. Beneath the SPOTLIGHT™ effect is a golden pearl with a Fresnel effect. Microtext beneath the oyster shell reads “Good Luck in the year of the of the dragon”. A PUREIMAGE™ design completes the base of the window design.
Surrounding the holographic designs are highly detailed gravure images of the Reserve Bank of Fiji’s logo, an iguana and the red throated Lorikeet. This combination of design, features and effects create an eye-catching and distinctive holographic stripe which secures the note from both sides.
The front of the note features a red hibiscus prominently displayed alongside a colour shifting flower printed in an optically variable magnetic ink. The front features ultraviolet features Enhanced GEMINI™ effects 'micro' and 'line' alongside standard GEMINI™. The reverse of the note features a stylised dragon, surrounded by white and yellow clouds. Under ultraviolet light the dragon appears in fluorescent yellow and green, with “Good luck in the Year of The Dragon” appearing under ultraviolet light.
The Reserve Bank of Fiji selected SAFEGUARD® polymer following their past experiences with the Fiji $5 in 2013, the first circulating banknote to be printed on SAFEGUARD®.
Ruth Euling, Managing Director, Currency and Executive Director: "This note is a triumph of design and integration for De La Rue. The Dragon will be limited to 950,000 banknotes available for international purchase. More information can be found on the Reserve Bank of Fiji’s website.
