De La Rue is delighted to announce that the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has not only just received the International Bank Note Society’s “Bank Note of the Year Award” for 2023 but was also granted last week the International Association of Currency’s “Best Limited Circulation/Commemorative Banknote”.
Designed on De La Rue's SAFEGUARD® polymer substrate, this state-of-the-art banknote joins the all-polymer series first introduced in 2019 and is one the first "next generation" polymer banknote designs with a deep integration of complementary security features into the overall banknote design.
In commemoration of the ECCB's 40th anniversary, the $2 note showcases a portrait of the legendary cricketer, Sir Vivian Richards, affectionately known as "the Master Blaster." Ruby red elements within the portrait honour the milestone anniversary. Further amplifying the note's aesthetic appeal is an intricate aquatic ecosystem design, signifying the Caribbean's thriving marine life.
The banknote's visual impact is enhanced by features including the first appearance of aqua-blue tinted holographic foil, turtle imagery, and the brilliant silver of the ARGENTUM and vibrant colours of the ILLUMINATE™ feature within the note's window.
Rosbert Humphrey, Director Eastern Caribbean Central Bank graciously commented, “This is exciting news. We could not have done this without the hard-working team at De La Rue, and those who voted for us.”
De La Rue’s Principal Design Manager, Jan Kercher stated “Congratulations to the ECCB on receiving such a prestigious award. The ECCB banknote was designed and manufactured in close collaboration with De La Rue. The design approach was to push the integration of the polymer substrate, print and features to deliver a truly compelling banknote leveraging combinational technologies and the Safeguard substrate design flexibility.”
