Kuwait City, Kuwait 19 May 2014
Today the Central Bank of Kuwait is launching a complete new family of banknotes that has been designed and printed by De La Rue. With vibrant colours and the latest security features, the new family comprises 6 denominations – ¼, ½, 1, 5, 10 and 20 Dinar.
Working in close collaboration, the Central Bank and De La Rue have developed a sophisticated and elegant family of notes - the first for nearly 20 years - that celebrate Kuwait’s unique history, heritage and economic success. The notes use nationally important imagery such as the flag and crest whilst incorporating the latest security features including StarBright™colour changing security thread and the optically variable SPARK® Orbital™ink.
Commenting on the launch, His Excellency Dr Mohammed Al-Hashel, Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait said “This new set of banknotes has been designed and produced using the most up to date and modern processes and follows our country’s tradition of innovative, well thought-out design. We are grateful to De La Rue for their support with these new banknotes.” The notes will start to enter circulation at the end of June 2014.
“We are honoured to have been entrusted with this key project” said Keith Brown, Managing Director of De La Rue Currency. “We are very proud of this new, secure family of banknotes which marks the latest milestone in our 34-year old relationship with Kuwait”.
