Tuesday 26 April: De La Rue has just completed its 14th annual Advanced Banknote Manager Course with 13 senior executives from central banks around the world participating in two weeks of presentations and interactive workshops.
Based predominantly in the company’s headquarters in Basingstoke, the course covers all aspects of the policy decisions and activities surrounding the issue and circulation of banknotes. With tours around the various UK facilities for substrate manufacture, security feature production and printing, the course aims to provide central banks with the information required to make informed decisions.
External presenters on the course include the United States Secret Service, the Maldives Monetary Authority and the Bank of England as well as well-known industry experts who have worked at institutions including the European Central Bank, the US Bureau of Engraving and the International Monetary Fund. Commenting on this year’s event, external course adviser Charles Spencer, who worked at senior levels at the Bank of Canada for 30 years, said ‘“This course is probably the most comprehensive in the field. As it’s limited to one representative per country, the delegates learn a great deal from each other and the quality of discussion is very good. The mixture of theoretical and practical exercises makes it very effective.”
Delegate comments included:
- “The course was excellent and I would say a must for anyone working in currency.”
- “Perfect score. A lot of information - but very vital and important for banknote production.”
- “Every topic and presentation was relevant and engaging.”
- “Fantastic. The sharing amongst the group was so useful as real experiences and challenges were shared.”
- “It exceeded my expectations in terms of level and depth of content.”
