From this year, De La Rue will be carbon offsetting all its exhibition and event attendance as part of its commitment to being a responsible business.
As an international business operating in around 140 countries, De La Rue regularly takes part in many events around the world, which involves huge amounts of travel. In order to reduce the impact of this on the environment, De La Rue has agreed to offset all travel and accommodation cost for all De La Rue delegates and exhibitors at these events.
Working with Carbon Footprint Ltd, De La Rue has estimated it will save 268 tonnes of CO₂ – which is the equivalent of around 29 homes’ energy use in a year or the CO₂ emissions of 30,156 gallons of gasoline*.
Sophie Ogilvy, De La Rue’s Head of Sustainability, said: ‘Whilst only a small contribution, it is a step in the right direction and another key part of De La Rue’s environmental strategy which we continue to develop. It also helps to draw attention to the environmental cost of international meetings and conferences and helps us think about how we can do things differently. We are always looking at ways the business can reduce its negative impact on the environment and are committed to doing more in the future.”
De La Rue will be able to support three international carbon-offsetting projects that will have each have a positive impact in the community. They are a tree project in Kenya, a drinking water programme in Uganda and the Wayang Windu Geothermal power initiative in Indonesia – all locations where De La Rue will attend events throughout the year, so directly giving back to the local community.
