11 May 2015: the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago’s stunning new commemorative $50 banknote, designed and produced by De La Rue on Safeguard, has won the prestigious International Bank Note of the Year Award 2014.
De La Rue is delighted to announce this first global accolade for its Safeguard design expertise. The modern and eye-catching design is a fitting winner of this annual award and marks the 7th time that the company’s design department has won such international recognition from the International Bank Note Society (IBNS).
Designed and produced by De La Rue in close collaboration with the Central Bank, the highly colourful and distinctive $50 note was issued in December 2014 to mark 50 years of the Central Bank. With striking images of hibiscus flowers, a native bird and carnival dancer, the new note is a fitting reflection of the beauty and vibrancy of Trinidad and Tobago. A particularly dynamic image of a Red-Capped Cardinal bird appears in the clear window of the polymer note.
This brings to a total of 13 the awards that De La Rue’s banknote designs have won since 2007 – a track record of which we are justifiably proud.
