Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, 15 December 2014; the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago has released a stunning new commemorative $50 banknote that has been designed and produced by De La Rue on Safeguard.
To celebrate 50 years of the Central Bank, a new commemorative $50 polymer note has been released into circulation. This highly colourful and distinctive note has been designed and produced by De La Rue in close collaboration with the Central Bank. With striking images of hibiscus flowers, a native bird and carnival dancer, the new note is a fitting reflection of the beauty and vibrancy of Trinidad and Tobago. A particularly dynamic image of a Red-Capped Cardinal bird appears in the clear window of the polymer note.
Speaking at the spectacular launch event in Port-of-Spain attended by the President His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona and over 1000 guests, Governor Jwala Rambarran commented “This new banknote reflects the beauty of our people and the diversity of our flora whilst retaining the familiar national symbols from previous issues. With its golden colour, it is a suitable tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of the Central Bank. We are proud to be the first Central Bank in the Caribbean to issue a banknote on the Safeguard polymer substrate and are grateful for De La Rue’s assistance with this project”.
Keith Brown, Managing Director for De La Rue Currency stated “This new note marks almost 100 years of De La Rue’s partnership with Trinidad and Tobago and we are immensely honoured to have worked with the Central Bank for all this time. This commemorative issue has been a tremendous project for us and all of those who have been involved are excited to see such a beautiful design enter circulation. We trust that the people of Trinidad and Tobago will think likewise.”
