Monday 5 December 2016 - today the Central Bank of Seychelles is issuing into circulation its new family of 7 coins and 4 banknotes, the latter designed and printed by De La Rue.
The theme of the 4 new banknotes - 25, 50, 100 and 500 Rupees - is Seychelles’ unique biodiversity with key endemic species portrayed on the fronts and backs. From amphibians and reptiles to fish and birds, these bright and eye catching banknotes are a fitting tribute to the amazing and varied species found on the islands of the Seychelles. De La Rue worked closely in collaboration with the Central Bank to develop the designs and produce the notes.
The notes also carry a suite of world class security features to secure them against the threat of counterfeiting. Every denomination has a Depth™ image hologram with Kinetic StarChrome® security thread on 3 of the notes. These are the first notes in the world with this state-of-the-art thread that combines the proven technology of StarChrome® colour change with holographic technology. The top 500 Rupees has the award-winning super wide Optiks® security thread. In addition SPARK® Live optically variable ink features on the top 2 values.
