Bank of Scotland has revealed the design of the limited edition Safeguard® £5 to be auctioned to raise money for Bank of Scotland’s Charity of the Year, BBC Children in Need
Thursday 8 October 2015: as previously announced, De La Rue has worked closely with the Bank of Scotland to produce a one-off limited edition £5 banknote which will be sold at auction next month to raise money for BBC Children in Need. The notes feature a picture of the charity’s Pudsey bear in a design produced by 13-year old Kayla Robson who won the Bank of Scotland’s competition to ‘design a banknote’. Just 50 of these notes have been produced by De La Rue and the use of the Safeguard® substrate has allowed novel use of secure windows in the image of the Bank’s headquarters The Mound in Edinburgh.
Commenting on the announcement, Bank of Scotland retail managing director Annette Barnes said: “This new fiver is brighter and bolder than most other banknotes in circulation and really brings to life what BBC Children in Need means to so many people. Kayla did a fantastic job with her design and I am delighted to see how we have been able to incorporate it into our first polymer banknote. It is the first time a child’s design has been used to create any UK banknote and we hope to raise lots of money for BBC Children in Need.”
Ruth Euling, De La Rue’s Global Account Management Director, said “This was an amazing opportunity for us to work with Bank of Scotland for such a great cause and we thoroughly enjoyed hosting Kayla’s visit to our Design Department. We wish the Bank luck with the auction and encourage everybody to give generously”.
