Thursday 12 May 2016: yesterday the Bank of Guyana marked 50 years of Guyanese independence by launching a new $50 designed and printed by De La Rue.
This brand new denomination – the first $50 ever in Guyana – has been issued to commemorate 50 years of the nation’s independence. The Bank of Guyana has played a significant role in the country’s development over the years by overseeing the financial system and taking measures to maintain monetary and financial stability. So issuing a new banknote is a fitting way to mark such a momentous occasion.
On the occasion of the launch, the Governor of the Bank of Guyana Dr Gobind Ganga commented ‘We are pleased to be marking Guyana’s 50 years of independence with a brand new denomination and are grateful to De La Rue for helping us with this project”.
De La Rue’s Ruth Euling, Account Management Director, said “We have been involved with printing currency for Guyana for exactly 100 years this year and are honoured to be involved with this new denomination”.
