Praia, Cape Verde: the first 3 denominations of the new Cape Verde banknote family were issued into circulation in December 2014. The 200 and 1000 Escudos were issued into circulation on 23rd December and the 2000 the following day. Designed and manufactured by De La Rue, the 200 Escudos is on Safeguard® polymer substrate whilst the 1000 and 2000 Escudos are on cotton paper.
In keeping with previous series, the new banknotes are very colourful and vibrant, using a wide colour palette and the most sophisticated range of security features including colour changing security threads and holographic elements. The notes depict famous Cape Verdean artists from the worlds of literature and music together with accompanying imagery of landscapes and musical instruments. The remaining two denominations of the new family will be issued in 2015.
At the launch Dr Antonia Lopes, Director of the Issue, Treasury and Payment Systems Department said “The new notes dignify famous Cape Verdean figures from music, literature and politics who come from the various islands of our country. We have worked with De La Rue for many years and appreciate the support that we have received from the company during this new family project”.
“We are honoured to have been entrusted with the design and production of this stunning new family of notes and very much look forward to the official launch” commented Ruth Euling, Sales Director, “We place great importance on building long term partnerships with our customers and working alongside them to develop their projects.”
