Supplier Quality Assurance Lead (SQA)

Zejtun, Malta

Role Purpose:

  • The scope of the role encompasses all suppliers primarily for the Malta site but other sites are not excluded
  • To provide a Supplier Development function for all key incoming Raw materials including the development of robust specifications and Supplier Rating/Audit
  • To investigate and report on quality issues relating to supplied raw materials, ensuring they meet the required quality standards
  • To assist in performing in-process testing of Product and associated Tooling (where applicable)
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action for external and internal customer concerns
  • Supporting Group Projects and liaising with other sites in relation to material suppliers

Key Responsibilities:


  • To always act and behave in a way compliant with all De La Rue company guidelines and policies, especially those relating to Environmental Health and Safety, Security, Ethics and Code of Business Principles


  • Conducting investigations for internal and external quality problems relating to raw materials and for Customer Quality concerns
  • The periodic visual inspection and testing of various types of incoming raw materials and create and keep a supplier scoring system
  • The review and maintenance of incoming raw material CoA / CoC records
  • Maintaining an effective Quarantine and segregation process for all nonconforming raw materials and affected part processed work


  • Working with and supporting the procurement department with good information and samples to drive the Supplier complaint investigations of defective raw materials
  • Working with external Material Suppliers on Quality related and material improvement issues, including visits to Suppliers premises when deemed necessary for various meetings, investigative purposes and audits


  • Be an active member of the internal Auditing team for the companies ISO management systems. Performing audits in a timely manner to schedule
  • Assisting in the improvement of Quality systems and SOP’s when required
  • Gathering statistical data and preparing quality reports for the Vendor rating process


  • Liaising with the Process and R&D departments as required on Quality and testing process issues related to existing and new raw materials
  • Communicating and escalating urgent Quality to the head of department

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • In possession of an Engineering/Science Degree or equivalent in experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience of working within a Supplier Quality Management / Assurance function
  • Ideally in possession of a 6-Sigma Green Belt certificate
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Good communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal
  • Experience in solving problems & driving improvements utilising data
  • A proactive approach towards the function
  • Able to analyse and develop systems and processes
  • High level of dexterity & attention to detail
  • Good in building and implementing systems across the organization
  • Able to create and follow detailed instructions
  • Skilled and familiar in using Quality Tools & Systems
  • Computer literate – Microsoft Office + Internal Software
  • The use of “8D” responses for corrective and preventive actions
  • ISO management systems internal Auditor trained
  • Be a natural leader and takes the lead when necessary
  • Familiar with lean manufacturing tools and principles

Other Requirements:

  • Able to travel to supplier sites, mainly in Europe, but also worldwide. Travel may be at short notice and for long periods of time
  • Flexible approach to working requirements including supporting the rest of the team and covering absences
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and in complex organizations
  • Work with other sites and the Central Teams when required on any required issues and projects
