Senior Buyer

An opportunity has arisen for two Senior Buyer positions to join our Procurement team based at our head office in Basingstoke.

The Senior Buyer will be accountable for strategic sourcing of goods and/or services in the specific categories assigned to them from De La Rue. This role is responsible for several critical and complex categories. Initially, support will be provided to the Senior Category Manager and over time the Senior Buyer will become fully responsible for an assigned category.

 

Key activities:

Technical

  • Run new product, value engineering and feature development projects (for direct materials and services within specified category area)
  • Provide support and analysis to internal teams
  • Present project reviews to senior managers
  • Support resolution of major quality issues if they arise

Commercial

  • Negotiate pricing, cost reductions and identify future savings opportunities for assigned categories and suppliers
  • Work with the wider bid and project teams to understand the requirements of tender documents and incorporate costs and products and service descriptions into bid responses
  • Monitor performance of selected suppliers, ensuring appropriate standards are met
  • Carry out supplier audits in conjunction with SQA team
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities as required

Strategic Sourcing

  • Work with relevant business owners to understand the specific business requirements and their implications on the procurement cycle
  • Operate within the marketplace in order to assess and proactively leverage developments, trends and changes
  • Communicates effectively the sourcing strategy to all relevant stakeholders in order to get their commitment and support while demonstrating the value it can bring
  • Over time become the subject matter expert for assigned categories

Sourcing Execution

  • Support the Senior Category Manager in defining the most appropriate commercial strategy to deliver specific procurement initiatives
  • Options assessment: assess suppliers for total cost of ownership, challenge suppliers when appropriate, communicate effectively with business owners to identify benefits and/or issues
  • Supplier negotiation: negotiate commercial terms with suppliers achieving the right QCD balance
  • Contract definition: define robust contracts from a commercial, risk management and technical point of view
  • SLA development: develop performance focused SLA’s
  • Develop robust business continuity plans for assigned categories and suppliers

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Manage key suppliers to ensure maximum value is delivered. Key suppliers need to be managed as business partners in terms of:
  • Commercial performance
  • Delivery performance
  • Service level
  • Quality assurance
  • Improvement opportunities
  • Operational excellence initiatives
  • Hold regular business/performance reviews with key suppliers as appropriate
  • Active supplier discovery and continuously benchmark against existing supplier base

Stakeholder Management

  • Work with business owners to proactively anticipate issues and/or identify future opportunities
  • Work with business owners to identify solutions and action plans to develop savings initiatives linked closely to the business objectives
  • Partner with finance to ensure correct reporting of spend and savings data
  • Communicate effectively savings and value delivered by procurement
  • Support sales teams in technical conversations with suppliers and customers

Key qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Graduate calibre
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Experience of managing complex supplier relationships
  • Adequate experience of contract negotiations and drafting of SLA’s
  • Strong communicative skills and an ability to operate and influence at all levels
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent commercial acumen and business awareness
  • Whilst experience is important, the successful candidate needs to be able demonstrate high potential for development and growth
