Cheques and drafts continue to be one of the main methods of payment, and in some parts of the world, the main method. Standard cheques however are vulnerable to criminal interference, and De La Rue has therefore worked with Governments and financial institutions to develop designs, production and processing systems which make them effectively sophisticated documents of exchange.

We have developed particular expertise in Africa and the Far East, which have both sophisticated and unsophisticated retail banking environments.

Our purpose-built cheque production facility in South Africa is working with banks actively to reduce cheque fraud with the use of high security cheques which contain a number of public recognition features, combined with marketing and implementation advice.

In other areas, Governments have made substantial investments into upgrading their entire banking systems to bring them in line with modern banking and payment standards, using De La Rue at every stage from cheque design, printing and secure distribution.
