Fiscal and Secure Government Documents
De La Rue Holographics works with many governments across every continent to help them develop and produce secure documents. These documents, such as passports, identity cards, driver's licences and fiscal stamps help to safeguard citizens and protect important sources of government revenue on goods like tobacco and alcohol.
OVDs combat counterfeit and fraud
In the past few years there has been a huge upsurge in organised crime schemes focussed on product counterfeit and contraband. This means that much needed government revenues from excise duties on spirits and tobacco are being diverted into the hands of criminals.
De La Rue Holographics is the leading international solution provider in the fiscal stamp market, managing schemes in over 25 countries. Our fiscal stamp programmes have made a major impact on reducing global counterfeit and fraud:
Examples of De La Rue's fiscal stamp programmes
- Northern Europe: Revenue from tobacco products increased by 700% and revenue from alcoholic drinks by 300% as a result of introducing an excise stamp programme.
- Europe: Tax collection increased by tens of millions of Euros with no reported counterfeit attacks for eight years.
- Far East: An increase of 36% in duties collected since the launch of the tax stamp two years ago.
- Eastern Europe: Revenue from tobacco products increased by 600% and revenue from alcoholic drinks by 1300% as a result of introducing an excise stamp programme.
OVDs provide first line defence
Interpol and ICAO recommend including an OVD on banknotes, ID documents and other security documents. The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) has launched an advanced, common identifier OVD for North American driver's licences across all 50 states plus Canada.
- De La Rue Holographics designed and originated the AAMVA OVD
- A De La Rue OVD protects a European driver's license
- A De La Rue OVD protects a highly secure Far Eastern tax stamp
