De La Rue Currency opens new factory extension - a £20 million investment in Sri Lanka
Today De La Rue Currency was delighted to welcome Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Finance, the Hon. Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Mr. K G D D Dheerasinghe, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and Dr. Ranee Jayamaha, Banking Advisor to the President, to open its newly extended banknote factory. The opening was also attended by other Ministers, visiting dignitaries, the Chief Executive of De La Rue James Hussey and Acting British High Commissioner Mark Gooding.
The factory extension represents an investment of more than £20 million, with a new state-of-the-art line of equipment to expand the company’s manufacturing capability, creating over 150 new jobs in Sri Lanka. Over the last five years De La Rue has doubled the number of its employees in Sri Lanka to more than 350 individuals.
Mr Hussey said "We are delighted to be opening our factory extension today. It is a clear demonstration that De La Rue continues to have confidence in Sri Lanka as a place to do business."
The De La Rue factory was established in 1984 in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Treasury to print banknotes for the local market and for export to other countries.
